The brief

Math Simplified teaches A-Level and IB maths online, from a teacher with 18 years of pre-university experience. It needed more than a video page: students had to try lessons for free, pay monthly or yearly in ringgit, and get access the moment a payment cleared, while the teacher ran courses, questions and subscriptions alone.

What we shipped

A complete course platform on mathsimplified.org: free preview lessons, monthly and yearly subscriptions in ringgit, video lessons that remember where each student stopped, notes and downloads, questions under every lesson, and a teaching studio with a course builder, analytics, coupons and moderation. It went live at the end of April 2026, and we have kept improving and monitoring it since.

Built for: The teacher who runs the course, and the A-Level and IB students who learn on it.

01 · Try before paying

A course students can try before they pay.

Math Simplified teaches A-Level and IB maths through short video lessons, written notes and exam answering techniques. The course page lays out the whole curriculum, module by module, with the length of every lesson.

Selected lessons are free to watch with a free account and no card, so a student can see whether the teaching clicks before paying anything. Every other lesson opens the moment a subscription starts.

02 · Subscriptions

Monthly or yearly, and access follows the payment.

Students choose a monthly or a yearly plan in ringgit and pay through Stripe Checkout. The yearly saving on the plan cards is worked out from the actual prices, so it is always right.

Access starts when the payment clears, renews with the subscription and stops if it lapses, with nobody checking by hand. Students update their card, download invoices or cancel in the billing portal, and an email goes out if a payment fails.

03 · Lessons

Lessons that pick up where each student stopped.

Lessons stream in up to 1080p and adjust to the connection, through playback links that only work for students with access. The player saves each student’s place, and completed lessons are ticked off across the course.

Under every video are the written notes with worked examples, worksheets to download and a space for questions. The teacher answers in place, so every student on that lesson sees the answer too.

04 · Teaching studio

A teaching studio, not a developer, behind every change.

Courses, modules, chapters and lessons sit in one tree in the teaching studio. They are reordered by dragging, cloned when a new course follows the same shape, and published one at a time.

Each lesson takes a video upload, which is encoded for streaming in the background, along with rich-text notes, worksheets and a switch for free previews. Course pages get their own preview video and questions, all edited in the same place.

05 · Running the course

The numbers, without a spreadsheet.

The studio shows students, active subscriptions, monthly recurring revenue and churn, with revenue by course and the latest transactions. Coupons are created in the studio and kept in step with Stripe, with limits and expiry dates.

Students can report a comment, and reported comments wait in a moderation queue to be kept or removed.

06 · Behind the platform

Built to run without a server to look after.

The platform runs on Cloudflare: the site and its database at the edge, files in object storage, and video on a streaming service built for it. Welcome, course-unlocked, failed-payment and password emails go out automatically from the course’s own domain.

In July a full review tightened checkout, payments, security and video playback. Since then we monitor traffic and hosting costs every day as part of our care.

From brief to production · 2026

The delivery, and what it leaves the team with.

  1. April 2026

    Built and live

Courses, payments in ringgit, video streaming and email, live on mathsimplified.org by the end of the month.

  2. May 2026

    Previews and questions

Preview videos and editable questions for each course page.

  3. July 2026

    Full review

Checkout, payments, security and video playback tightened; daily monitoring begins.

  4. August 2026

    Yearly plans

Yearly subscriptions beside monthly, and new home and about pages.

Runs itself day to day

Sign-up, payment, access, renewals, receipts and failed-payment emails happen without anyone stepping in.

Taught without a developer

Courses, lessons, notes, previews, coupons and questions are all managed from the teaching studio.

Lessons stay with paying students

Videos play only for students with access, and every student’s place is saved.

Status at 9 October 2026: mathsimplified.org is live with its first course, CIE A-Level Mathematics 9709. The home, course and plan screens on this page are the live site. The lesson and teaching-studio screens are the platform’s own code running with fictional students, subscriptions and figures, so no real student, revenue or subscriber number appears.
