Rules an online store has to follow
The 2024 e-commerce regulations require the seller’s details, the full price with delivery and taxes, the ways to pay, the terms and the delivery time before the shopper pays, in Bahasa Melayu as well as any other language, and an acknowledgement of every order. Marketing messages, including cart reminders, need the shopper’s consent under the Personal Data Protection Act, and stop when they ask.
Food and drink need their label particulars in Bahasa Malaysia, and the Food Regulations 1985 bar words such as “health” or “tonic” and any claim to prevent or treat a disease; cosmetics may not claim to treat disease either. Nothing may be called halal without JAKIM certification, so Highcloud Tea holds back reviews and campaign copy with such claims for checking. Sales tax depends on the goods: tea is exempt while herbal infusions carry 5%, so one receipt can carry several codes. Shops that buy and resell second-hand goods in Peninsular Malaysia need a dealer’s licence, must keep books of what they buy and sell, and may not deal between 7 pm and 7 am, which Crownwheel builds into its bookings and handovers. Brands below RM 3 million a year are not required to issue e-invoices. The building blocks are on our feature pages: online payments, store growth tools, connections to couriers and marketplaces, subscription commerce and WhatsApp reminders.
