Ninefold Foods
A halal Malaysian food brand house that exports: a product finder that reads the label, recipes that scale and shop, a halal certificate register, and an English and Arabic export desk that feeds the export team’s queue.

The brief
A food group that exports talks to cooks, shoppers checking a label, retailers, importers and investors, yet most brand sites show product grids of identical cards, no nutrition panel, a world map of pins and an email address for trade. Halal appears as a logo in the footer, with no certificate numbers, expiry dates or way to verify.
What we shipped
A brand house website built from the label up: a product finder with nine allergen filters reading the same record as the printed pack, product pages with the Malaysian nutrition panel, recipes with a servings scaler, shopping list and cooking mode, a store locator, a skill-judged contest, a halal certificate register on a timeline, a distributor desk in English and Arabic with spec sheets and sample requests, and the export queue and label studio behind them.
Built for: Food and drink manufacturers, brand houses and exporters, and any consumer brand whose labels, certifications and trade buyers matter as much as its photography.
Inside the build
Every part, and what it does
A closer look at what was actually built — screen by screen, so you can judge the depth for yourself.

Home page
The four brands’ packs, drawn with real type, laid on a photographed kopitiam table, then each audience routed to its part of the site.
- Brands as stacked colour layers
- A live allergen check across every pack
- Halal register and export map on the page

Product finder
Filters by brand, category, storage, diet and nine allergens with live counts, showing packs on shelves with their label facts.
- Results from the same record as the printed label
- A “may contain” switch for strict avoidance
- A Bahasa Melayu edition

The back of the pack
Each product shows its Malaysian nutrition panel, ingredients in Malay and English with allergen sources, date mark, maker and halal record.
- The panel in the regulation’s format
- Claims shown with their proof
- Certificate reference and expiry (samples)

Recipes that scale and shop
A recipe with a servings scaler, the group’s products linked in the ingredients and timers in the method.
- Quantities rescale in kitchen units
- One tap to a list merged by aisle
- Step-by-step cooking mode

Where to buy
A store list beside a real map, nearest first, filtered by brand and by who stocks the frozen range.
- Search by town or postcode
- Opened from any product page
- Online channels by name

A contest that follows the rules
A skill-judged contest for adults with its closing date on a ticket, how to enter, prizes, winners and a checked entry form.
- Judged on skill, adults only
- Fifteen words, one entry per receipt
- Terms in Malay and English

Distributor desk
Trade buyers pick a country on the map to see its distributor, or apply to become one, request samples or build a spec sheet.
- 24 distributor markets with dossiers (samples)
- Application and sample request
- A warning about fake partnership offers

The export desk in Arabic
The same desk laid out right to left for Gulf buyers, with Arabic dossiers, forms and the data-protection notice.
- A mirrored grid
- An Arabic type pairing chosen for the brand
- No halal logos, sample certificate numbers only

Spec sheet builder
Buyers choose products and get a printable sheet with case, pallet and container data, HS codes and certificates.
- Pallet drawing and order size per product
- Minimum-order warnings and container fill
- Prints as a clean A4 document

Halal certificate register
Certificates drawn from issue to expiry with today marked, the renewal under way flagged, and the selected certificate’s record beside them.
- Sample numbers, never the official logo
- How to verify with the official channels
- Food-safety systems with their validity

Export queue
Applications, sample requests and private-label enquiries by stage or by country, each with a dossier for screening and decisions.
- Reply-due dates from the public promises
- Competing applicants and taken markets flagged
- Appointing a distributor updates the public map

Label studio
The brand team edits a pack and its label beside a live preview of the product page; a failing claim or a missing allergen blocks publishing.
- Claim thresholds, banned words and allergens checked
- Publishing updates the product page and the finder
- History with undo

Brand identity
A food brand house: nine layers of kuih lapis with a folded corner, sirap, pandan and turmeric on coconut, Young Serif with Hanken Grotesk.
- Logo on light and dark
- Sirap, pandan and turmeric
- Young Serif and Hanken Grotesk

Company profile
An eleven-page A4 company profile in the Ninefold brand: four brands, how a paratha is made, halal certificates, food safety, 24 export markets and contract manufacturing. Sample content, written and designed by us.
- Print-ready PDF
- Brands, halal and export
- Sample content, clearly marked

Image set
Food and plant images generated in one art direction: a marble kopitiam table, daylight from the left, and documentary light inside the plants.
- One art direction
- Food, brands and plants
- Labelled as generated

Behind the build
Researched first, then built
Before designing anything, we studied 16 food brand websites: eight Malaysian makers and eight international brand houses, opening 82 inner pages and using their finders, recipe filters and trade forms. Nothing was copied. Each finding below changed a decision.
Studied (16)
- Mamee-Double Decker
- Munchy’s
- Julie’s
- Hup Seng
- Kawan Food
- Brahim’s
- Adabi
- Ayam Brand
- Lee Kum Kee
- Kikkoman
- McCormick
- Mondelez International
- Indofood

What we saw
What Ninefold Foods does
What we saw
Only four of sixteen sites show a nutrition panel and two an allergen line, and filters cover brand and category at most.
What Ninefold Foods does
The Malaysian nutrition panel and the printed back label on every product page, and nine allergen filters reading the same record, with a “may contain” switch.
What we saw
Product grids of identical cards on every site.
What Ninefold Foods does
Drawn packs at their real relative size standing on shelves, with shelf labels carrying the facts.
What we saw
Exporters show a world map of pins and an email address; no site lets a buyer find their country’s distributor, apply, request samples or get specifications.
What Ninefold Foods does
A distributor desk with dossiers, an application, a sample request and a printable spec sheet, all feeding the export team’s queue.
What we saw
Recipes are photo grids with search; none has a servings scaler, a shopping list or a cooking mode.
What Ninefold Foods does
All three, connected to the products each recipe uses.
What we saw
Halal is a logo in the footer; no site gives certificate numbers, expiry dates or how to verify them.
What Ninefold Foods does
A certificate register on a timeline with renewal status, the record on each product page, and the official ways to verify, without ever drawing the logo.
What we saw
Malaysian sites offer Malay or Chinese and none Arabic, though Gulf buyers need Arabic labels.
What Ninefold Foods does
Malay consumer pages and an Arabic export desk laid out right to left.
What we saw
Buy-and-win lucky draws, newsletter pop-ups and rotating carousels.
What Ninefold Foods does
A skill-judged contest for adults with a clear closing date and terms in both languages, and nothing on the site that moves or pops up by itself.
Feature checklist
47 of the 57 features the leading sites offer
We listed every feature we found in the research above. Ninefold Foods has 47 of them, and 4 more in part; the 6 left out are listed with the reason.

Built in part
- Cooking tips: tips sit inside recipes rather than in a separate technique library.
- A newsletter: opt-in sits inside the contest entry, with no pop-ups.
- A catalogue download: the printable spec sheet replaces a static PDF.
- A food-service section: food service is a channel on the export desk and the private-label page.
Left out, and why
- Ratings, reviews and an awards wall (2): they would mean inventing testimonials or credentials.
- Recipe nutrition, recipe videos and climate footprints (3): they need real measurements, a shoot or a life-cycle study.
- An online shop: the concept sends nothing and sells nothing.
Design research
How the leading sites look, and what we took
We measured the type, colour and layout of the brands we studied, then applied what the best of them share in an original design, on the public site and in the staff screens.
Across the leading sites
In Ninefold Foods
Across the leading sites
Heavy display type at 40 to 100 px; seven of sixteen use a heavy or condensed sans, three a characterful serif.
In Ninefold Foods
Young Serif headings at 44 to 96 px in sentence case, with Hanken Grotesk for text and tabular figures in panels and sheets.
Across the leading sites
Each brand its own logo and colour inside a corporate frame.
In Ninefold Foods
Each brand its own wordmark and colours, with the group’s nine-layer band on every pack.
Across the leading sites
Red dominates on 9 of 16 sites, with warm bands on white.
In Ninefold Foods
Sirap rose-red on coconut white with pepper ink, and pandan green for quality and halal.
Across the leading sites
Packshots as heroes, top-down tables and uneven recipe photography.
In Ninefold Foods
One art-directed photographic set on a marble kopitiam table, with packs drawn in SVG so every word on them is real.
Across the leading sites
Carousels, card grids, stats strips and decorative maps.
In Ninefold Foods
Shelves, an editorial recipe menu, brand layers, a data map and the company’s history as nine strata.
Across the leading sites
Rotating carousels and pop-ups.
In Ninefold Foods
Nothing moves on its own; packs lift on hover, and reduced motion is respected.
Across the leading sites
Utility bars for audiences, share price or language.
In Ninefold Foods
A utility bar with a sample share price, routes for each audience and the language switch.
Rules it follows
The business rules, built in
The prototype enforces each of these, so you can test them yourself.
Halal
- Only products with a valid certificate say “halal certified”, and the claim disappears if it lapses
- Certificates show reference and dates as samples, with the official ways to verify them
- The official Malaysian halal logo is never drawn
Labels
- The nutrition panel in the Food Regulations’ order and rounding, in Malay and English
- Allergen sources named and driving the filters
- Date marks in the permitted wording
Claims
- Nutrition and content claims checked against their legal thresholds and shown with their proof
- Comparative claims name the product compared
- The studio refuses failing claims and banned words
Health logo and marketing
- Healthier Choice criteria checked per category, without drawing the logo
- The contest judged on skill, adults only, with a clear closing date
- No testimonials, ratings, awards or customer logos
Data and trade
- A data-protection notice on every form in Malay and English, and in Arabic on the Arabic desk
- Optional uses as separate unticked boxes
- HS codes marked indicative; nothing sent anywhere
Connected roles
One action, every screen
Every role works on the same records, so one person’s action shows up for the others.
- 1
A shopper ticks “free from milk and peanuts”, and the shelf, the counts and every product page’s allergen line agree, because they read the same record as the label.
- 2
A cook scales a recipe to six and adds it to the shopping list, and the list merges it with other recipes by aisle.
- 3
A shopper opens “where to buy” from a frozen product, and the locator shows only stores that carry the frozen range.
- 4
A trade buyer sends a distributor application in English or Arabic, and the export team sees it in the queue as new, with its reply-due date.
- 5
The export team appoints a distributor, and the public desk shows it on the map while the market counts on the home page go up by one.
- 6
The brand team changes a pack’s sugar figure, and the “less sugar” claim fails its threshold and publishing is blocked until it is fixed.
- 7
The brand team publishes a label change, and the product page, its claim proof and the finder update at once.
