Ownership

  • Source code, handed over in your own repository
  • Domain and DNS, registered to your business
  • Hosting and every service account, in your name
  • Analytics, search and ad accounts, with us as a manager you can remove
  • All content, media and data in the system

Ongoing care

System care from RM 250 a month

For a more complex website or a system with a real backend, ongoing care starts from RM 250 a month, with the plan confirmed against what was actually launched. Care is quoted with the project, not bolted on afterwards.

Support

We normally respond within one working day

We normally respond to a support request in under one working day, and we work to solve problems as fast as we can. That is how we normally work rather than a contractual guarantee, and responding is not the same as resolving. If your operation needs a formal response or resolution commitment, we can write one into your scope.

Timeline

Normally three to four weeks

A more complex website or business system normally takes three to four weeks, and a larger platform is scheduled against the agreed scope. Prototype timing is separate: you see a working prototype before any deposit.

Before you decide

Questions people ask before they commit

Can donors get a tax receipt online?

Yes, if your charity holds LHDN approval under subsection 44(6). The receipt follows the format in your approval letter, in Bahasa Melayu or both languages, with the donor’s identity number and address. Lanternway’s receipt shows it with sample details.

Do we have to issue e-invoices for donations?

Approved charities above the exemption threshold in LHDN’s e-invoice guideline issue an e-invoice when a donor asks, and a consolidated e-invoice each month for the other gifts. Below it, official receipts continue. We confirm your threshold with LHDN before building it in.

Can donors change or stop a monthly gift themselves?

Yes, from their donor area: change the amount or date, pause or stop, with receipts and a yearly statement in the same place.

How long does it take?

A straightforward company website normally takes one to two weeks once the content is ready. A more complex website or business system normally takes three to four weeks, and a larger platform is scheduled against the agreed scope.

What happens next

From a message to a working prototype

We build a free working prototype first. It carries no payment obligation, so you can judge the direction before committing.

  1. 1

    Tell us what you need

Message us on WhatsApp with your business and the pages or features you have in mind. We reply normally within one working day.

  2. 2

    See a free prototype

We build a working prototype you can click through on your own phone. There is no payment obligation at this stage.

  3. 3

    Approve the scope and quote

We confirm the pages, features, responsibilities and timeline in writing. The deposit is paid only when you approve the quotation.

  4. 4

    Build, review and launch

We complete the build with your real content, you review it, and we launch after your final approval.

How it runs

Get the receipts right first

We agree who gets which receipt and how gifts are reconciled, then build the giving journey and the volunteer side on that.

  1. 01

Map how you raise funds today

Appeals, channels, receipts, volunteers and the reports your board and LHDN need.

  2. 02

    Prototype the gift

From appeal page to paid gift and the right receipt, on a phone.

  3. 03

    Build the staff side

Reconciliation, receipts with a log, donor records, rosters and reports.

  4. 04

    Train and launch

Your team trained on receipts and rosters, then care at the level you choose.

What donors, volunteers and charity teams need

We studied 14 charities and giving platforms in Malaysia, Singapore and the US, among them food banks, education charities and the donation, donor-portal and volunteer tools behind them, before building Lanternway Foundation. The table shows each need and where we have built it.

Charity needs, and where we have built them

Rules a charity website has to follow

Gifts are tax-deductible only when the charity holds LHDN approval under subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act; registration with the Registry of Societies or SSM is not enough, and LHDN tells donors to check the approval on its site. Only gifts of money qualify, given without conditions or a benefit in return, and donors deduct them up to 10% of aggregate income. LHDN’s guideline of 23 October 2025 sets the receipt: Bahasa Melayu or bilingual, a unique pre-printed serial number, the donor’s name, identity number and address, the collector’s post, and the approval reference with its dates. A receipt goes only to a donor who gives those details.

Approved charities above the exemption threshold in LHDN’s e-invoice guideline issue an e-invoice when a donor asks, and a consolidated e-invoice within seven days of each month’s end for the other gifts; from 2026 a single gift over RM 10,000 needs the donor’s full details. A company limited by guarantee needs SSM’s approval before it asks the public for donations, and house-to-house and street collections need a licence under Act 200 in Peninsular Malaysia. Donor and volunteer records fall under the Personal Data Protection Act, so updates need consent the donor can withdraw. The building blocks are on our feature pages: online payments, e-invoices, donor logins, consent records, rosters and bookings and dashboards.

FAQ

More questions about charities & foundations

Straight answers to what people ask. Anything else, message us and a person replies.

Ask a question
Can the site be in Bahasa Melayu and English?

Yes, page by page, and receipts can be bilingual as LHDN’s guideline allows. See multi-language websites.

Can companies give through the site?

Yes. A company’s gift carries its registration number on the receipt, and a partner desk can handle matched giving and team volunteering days.

Can we take gifts in kind?

Yes, as pledges recorded for thanks and reports. LHDN gives no tax deduction for gifts in kind, so they get an acknowledgement, not a tax receipt.
